Necessary cookies are needed for the site to work. They keep you signed in, keep your session secure, and help our payment provider (Stripe) prevent fraud during checkout. The site cannot work properly without these, so they are always on.

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. These are optional. Where the law requires it, we ask for your permission before we use them, and we do not load them until you agree. You can accept or decline, and you can change your choice at any time.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working.

If you are in the EU or UK, we ask for your consent before using analytics or other non-essential cookies, in line with applicable data protection laws.

Public and Private Candles

When you create a candle, you choose whether it is public or private.

Public candles may be displayed on the Candle Wall and visible to other users. The text of a public candle may also be stored in the candle's public record, including on the blockchain, where it may remain permanently and cannot be deleted.

Private candles are never shown on the Candle Wall. When a private candle is recorded on the blockchain, we publish only a secure one-way "hash" of your words — a scrambled fingerprint that cannot be turned back into the original text. Your actual words are never placed on the public Candle Wall or in the public blockchain record.

For private candles, your words may be stored securely in your own account so that you can view them on your My Candles page. They are never shown publicly and are never written to the public blockchain record.

Automated and AI Content Checks

To help keep Everlit Candle safe and respectful, the words you submit are checked when you create a candle. This check may use automated tools, including artificial intelligence (AI) systems provided by a third-party service, and may also involve review by our team.

This means that when you create a candle, the text you write is sent to this service so that it can be checked. This applies to both public and private candles.

For a private candle, even though only a secure one-way "hash" is ever recorded on the blockchain, and the candle is never shown on the Candle Wall, the readable words are still processed at the moment of creation so they can be checked for safety. The service that performs this check does not publish your words. Your words are not written to the public blockchain record and are not shown publicly.

We use these checks only to keep the service safe and to enforce our Terms of Service. Based on a check, a candle may be blocked before it is created, or hidden or removed afterward.

Public Candle Content and Moderation

You are responsible for the content you submit. When you choose to make a candle public, you agree not to submit content that is unlawful, hateful, racist, threatening, harassing, sexually explicit, or that violates the rights or privacy of others.

We may review, hide, or remove any public candle from the Candle Wall at any time, at our discretion, without notice and without refund.

Because public candle content may be permanently recorded on the blockchain, we may not be able to delete it from the blockchain even after removing it from the Candle Wall. Please consider carefully what you choose to make public.
