This page tells you how Everlit Candle works: how to light a candle, how to pray for other people, what stays private, and what happens when you make a candle Everlit. The technical details are near the end, for people who want them.

What Everlit Candle is

Everlit Candle is a place for intercessory prayer. You pray for other people, and other people pray for you.

When you pray for yourself, you ask. When you pray for others, you give.

You write what is on your heart. Your words become a candle with its own flame.
On the Candle Wall, you pray for people who have the same need as you.
Other people pray for your candle. You can see each prayer that they give.

It is free to light a candle and to pray. Free candles stay for as long as Everlit operates. They do not expire.

If a candle means something that you want to keep forever, you can make it Everlit ∞ for a one-time payment of $7 (see Section 10). You do not need to know anything about blockchain or crypto.

How to light a candle

Tap Light my candle.
Write your prayer. You can use up to 500 characters. You cannot edit the prayer after you light the candle, so read it again before you continue.
Choose what the prayer is for, for example Health, Family, Grief, or Thanks. We select one for you as you write. Tap a different one if ours is wrong.
Choose Public or Private. Section 7 explains the difference.
Tap Light My Candle. If you are not signed in, we ask you to sign in first. We keep your prayer while you sign in.

Your candle opens in Prayer Mode (see Section 4). You can find it later on your My Candles page.

If your words tell us that you may be thinking about harming yourself, we show a short page with a link to free helplines before we show your candle. Your candle is still lit, and your prayer is kept.

How your flame is made

Your flame comes from your words.

When you light a candle, we put your prayer and the candle's unique ID through a process called SHA-256. This process turns text into a long number, called a hash. We use that number as a seed. The seed sets the color, the shape, the glow, and the movement of your flame. It also gives the flame four traits: Temperament, Breath, Glow, and Bearing.

This means:

Every candle has its own flame, even when two people write the same words.
Your flame does not change. It stays the same when the candle becomes Everlit.

Praying in Prayer Mode

When you open a candle, it opens in Prayer Mode. The prayer rises slowly under the flame. One full pass of the prayer is one prayer.

Your prayer counts only when you are signed in. If you are not signed in, you can still pray, but the count does not change. After one prayer, we ask you to sign in so that your next prayers count.
When you are signed in, the prayer repeats. Each full pass adds one prayer to the candle's count. This is also true on your own candles.
To stop, tap Interrupt.
After 10 minutes, we ask, "Are you still praying?" Nothing counts until you answer.
One person can add up to 20 prayers to one candle each day. After that, you can keep praying, but the count stops for that day.

The count shows how many prayers a candle received. It is not a "like", and it is not a ranking.

The Candle Wall

The Candle Wall is where you pray for other people. To pray on the Wall, sign in and light a candle of your own first.

The Wall shows one public candle at a time. Use the arrows to move to the next or the previous candle.
We start with needs like your own. You can choose a different need, or all needs.
We show candles with fewer prayers first, so that no prayer is left alone. Popular candles do not get more space.
We never show your own candles to you on the Wall.
The Wall does not show names or email addresses.

If the owner of a candle also prayed for you, the Wall tells you so after you pray.

My Candles and your prayers

Your My Candles page shows all your candles, public and private, newest first. You can search your candles and filter them by need.

The Prayers section has two lists:

Received: people who prayed for your candles.
Given: the candles you prayed for.

These lists show the need, the time, and how many times someone prayed. They never show who the person is. If a person who prayed for you has a public candle, you can pray for them in return.

Each candle has a menu (⋮) with these items: Share this candle, Details, Hide from Wall or View on Wall, Make It Everlit · $7, View on blockchain, and Transfer to my wallet. In Details, you can change what the prayer is for, or delete the candle.

Public and private candles

When you light a candle, you choose Public or Private. This choice decides who can see your prayer. Please read this section carefully.

Public candles

A public candle can show on the Candle Wall. Other people can see the flame and the prayer, and they can pray for it. The Wall does not show your name or your email.

If a public candle becomes Everlit, your words go into its permanent record (see Section 12). Nobody can delete text from the permanent record after we write it, not us and not you.

Private candles

A private candle does not show on the Candle Wall.

If a private candle becomes Everlit, we do not write your words to the permanent record. We write only the hash of your words, a one-way fingerprint. Nobody can turn a hash back into the original text.

We keep your words in your account, so you can read them on your My Candles page. Other people can see them only if you share a link to the candle (see Section 8).

Changing your choice later

On My Candles, open the menu (⋮) on a candle. Tap Hide from Wall to make it private, or View on Wall to make it public. When you make a private candle public, we check the prayer again before it goes on the Wall.

For an Everlit candle, this change affects the website only. The permanent record stays as it was when the candle became Everlit:

If the candle was public at that time, your words stay in the permanent record, even if you hide the candle later.
If the candle was private at that time, only the hash is in the permanent record, even if you show the candle on the Wall later.

You can share a candle when you want people to pray with you. On My Candles, open the menu (⋮) on the candle and tap Share this candle. If your device has a share menu, it opens. If not, we copy the link for you.

For a public candle, the link opens its public page.
For a private candle, we make a private link. The link is long and random, so nobody can guess it. Anyone who has the link can see the flame and the prayer. Send it only to people you trust.

You never have to share a candle. Your candle does not fade if nobody visits it.

How we check prayers

We check the words of every new candle to keep Everlit Candle safe and respectful. The check looks for hurtful words, and for links or website addresses. A prayer has no need for them.

If the check flags a public candle, we keep it off the Wall until our team reviews it. You see a notice on your My Candles page. You cannot make a flagged candle Everlit until our team approves it.

Making a candle Everlit

If a candle means something that you want to keep, you can make it Everlit ∞. Your candle stays free on Everlit either way.

To make a candle Everlit, open the menu (⋮) on the candle in My Candles and tap Make It Everlit · $7.

The price is $7, paid one time by card. There is no subscription. The cost of the blockchain network is included. There are no other fees.

Stripe, a secure payment company, handles the payment. You type your card details on Stripe's page, so we never see or keep your full card number.

After the payment, the candle gets its permanent Everlit number, for example No. 000042. Then we make its permanent record. This can take a few minutes. When we finish, the candle shows the ∞ mark.

Gift Everlit

Another person can make your free candle Everlit for you, as a gift. They pay the same one-time $7.

We tell you, "Someone made your candle Everlit." We never tell you who it was.
The candle stays yours. A gift does not give the other person your candle.

The blockchain record

This section is for people who want the technical details.

We record each Everlit candle as a digital token (an NFT) on the Solana blockchain. It is a standard NFT, not a compressed NFT. We make it with the Metaplex Token Metadata standard, and each candle has its own token. We send it to Solana through Helius, a Solana network provider.

Here is what we store, and where:

Arweave, a network for permanent storage, keeps a still image of your flame, an animated image of your flame, a small web page that draws your live flame, and the candle's details.
Solana keeps the token and a short note (a memo) about the candle.

The candle's details include its name (for example, Everlit Candle No. 000042), its four flame traits, and the hash of your prayer. For a public candle, the details also include your full prayer.

Prayer counts and prayer activity are not in the permanent record. They are live website features, and they depend on Everlit.

Who holds the Everlit record, and transfers

You do not need a crypto wallet to use Everlit Candle.

Today, the token for every Everlit candle is held in the Everlit Candle project wallet. You do not hold the token directly. Your Everlit account shows which candles are yours.

You can ask us to move the token for your Everlit candle to your own Solana wallet. To do this, send an email to team@everlitcandle.com from the email address of your account. Tell us:

The candle number (you can find it in Details on My Candles).
The address of your Solana wallet.

We check that the candle is yours, and then we send the token to your wallet. Please check the wallet address carefully. We cannot reverse a blockchain transfer.

Soon, you will be able to do this yourself with Transfer to my wallet on My Candles. Until then, the email is the way to transfer.

After the token is in your own wallet, you are responsible for the security of that wallet. We may not be able to help with wallet problems. Our Ownership & Blockchain Disclosure gives the full terms.

Viewing your candle on the blockchain

You can see every Everlit candle on Solscan, a public blockchain explorer. On My Candles, open the menu (⋮) on the candle and tap View on blockchain.

For a public candle, the explorer can show your prayer. For a private candle, it shows only the hash, never your words.

A technical note: for a public candle, the memo on Solana holds the first 138 characters of your prayer. If your prayer is longer, the memo ends with "…". The full prayer stays in the candle's details on Arweave. This limit does not change the prayer on the website.

You can sign in with Google, or with a sign-in link that we send to your email. You do not need a password.

Open the email link on the same phone or computer where you asked for it. You stay signed in on that device until you sign out.

We use Firebase Authentication, a secure sign-in service from Google. If you use Google and your email with the same address, both open the same account.

When you are signed in, tap Settings in the menu at the top of the page. Settings shows your email, the date you joined, and your number of candles. It also has Sign out and Delete my account.

What is stored, and where

In the permanent record (Everlit candles only, public, and cannot be deleted):

For a public candle: your prayer
For a private candle: only the hash (fingerprint) of your prayer
Your flame images and flame traits
The Everlit number and the token

On our website (not in the permanent record):

All your candles, free and Everlit, with their prayers
Your public or private choice, and what each prayer is for
Prayer counts and your prayer activity
Your email address and account information

Deleting a candle or your account

The permanent record of an Everlit candle cannot be changed or deleted, by us or by you.

Delete one candle

On My Candles, open the menu (⋮) on the candle and tap Details. Then tap Delete this candle and type DELETE to confirm.

For a free candle, we delete it completely, with its share link.
For an Everlit candle, we remove it from our website. The permanent record stays.

Delete your account

Tap Settings, then Delete my account, and type DELETE to confirm. We delete your account, your prayers, your share links, and your notices from our systems.

For each Everlit candle, we keep only its number on our website, because the permanent record links to that page. The permanent record stays. For a private candle, this record is only the hash. For a public candle, it includes your words.

What Everlit is not

Everlit does not promise that a prayer will be answered. Prayer is a matter of faith. Everlit gives people a place to pray for one another.

Everlit candles are not investments or securities, and they are not a way to make money. Please do not buy an Everlit candle because you expect a profit.
